On the occasion of the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympic Games, Palazzo Diedo is pleased to present two screenings as part of the thematic program curated by Archivio Montanaro for the official program of the Venice Carnival 2026.

College (1927, 66’, silent) and The Battle of the Century (1927, 19’, silent)  offer a distinctly humorous exploration of themes related to competition and sport. In the former, we witness Buster Keaton’s unsuccessful attempts to try his hand at various athletic disciplines—not in pursuit of a medal, but to win the affection of a young woman. In the latter, we follow the misadventures of Stan Laurel as a boxer and his unscrupulous manager, played by Oliver Hardy.  The story ultimately unfolds into an exuberant battle fought with decidedly unexpected weapons.

Live musical accompaniment by Lorenzo Liuzzi
