Voyager is an interactive audio installation guiding participants into hypnotic states of consciousness to create an artistic experience that lives in the liminal space between conscious and unconscious perception. Participants enter private sensory booths, attach heart rate sensors to their fingertips, and choose from a menu of guided audio journeys, each representing a distinct approach to altered awareness, drawing from apophatic mysticism, neurological defragmentation, and Ericksonian hypnosis. What unites these approaches is a shared conviction that spoken language, used precisely, can function as executable code to generate an inner world. Voyager makes an unusual wager for a work of art: it uses no images. In a field where the visual has long been dominant, the bet is that imagery conjured hypnotically, rising from within the participant’s own unconscious, might be more immersive, more individualized, and ultimately more poignant than anything that could be placed in front of their eyes.
